Giordano Bruno
Rome, Italy, August 2008
The statue of Giordano Bruno, often thought of as a martyr for free thinking, freedom of speech and modern scientific ideas. He was burned at the stake as a heretic by the Roman Inquisition near Campo de’ Fiori, where his statue by Ettore Ferrari was erected facing the Vatican.
An interesting property of this photograph: if you stand back and look at it, a circle around the statue’s head formed by the clouds in the background becomes prominent.
